Event Focus: Interoperability Testing
The second Live Interoperability Test Event (LITE2) was held over four days at the UL IMS headquarters in Leiden, the
Netherlands. The main goal was to test how well eSIM profiles work with different eSIMs (eUICCs) in real devices or simulators.
Participants and Scope
24 companies participated, including Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and MVNOs, device OEMs, eUICC manufacturers
(EUMs), and testing companies.
Advanced Testing
A major step forward from the first event was the in-depth testing done after a profile was downloaded and installed.
File System Verification: Using the ASN.1 profile, participants could quickly verify that the eSIM had correctly built the required file system (like MF, DFs, EFs).
Application Checking: The tests also verified that all additional applications and their associated security keys were correctly installed.
Collaborative Spirit
The event was described as a great example of competitors working together to solve common technical issues, with technical
discussions continuing long after the official event days ended. Context: What it Led To The testing at LITE2 was part of the industry's work on the Consumer eSIM specification (SGP.22). The experience gained there, especially in simplifying profile management, helped
inform the development of the new eSIM IoT specification (SGP.31/32). This new standard introduces components like the
eIM (eSIM IoT Remote Manager) and IPA (IoT Profile Assistant) to better serve resource-constrained IoT devices.
